Melinda's Cupcake

I've done it again - challenged myself to combine challenges. I'm afraid this will become a regular occurrence on here, so please don't be annoyed or run away ;) Instead, delight in my creativity and effort to better my efforts. (I should stop reading medieval romances... they make me talk like a smart grownup.)

Here's the card:

The first challenge I was trying to comply with is the Taylored Expressions Cupcake Challenge #60. You can find that blog here. It's a sketch challenge, which is right here:
The second challenge I was working with was from Cute Card Thursday. Their blog is here. The requirements for this one are : something ripped, 2 papers, 4 embellishments - exactly.

Tough tough tough.

I had this paper I found in my stash that I forgot about... it is the whimsy blossoms collection from TAC. I love these papers. The colors are great! So, I wanted to focus on these colors, but since I could only use 2 pieces of paper, it was going to be hard! I thought to combine the little scallops in the sketch with my tearing (someting ripped) since I have one of those nifty shaped rulers for papertearing that has waves/scallops. I used the oval from the sketch by actually removing it from my pretty pretty paper. (That way, the image had a 'mat' made of the actual cardstock of the card AND a mat of the pretty flowered paper.) Then, I used the little strip of matching striped paper to have my 2nd piece of paper. I wanted to dress the card up more, but I didn't have 4 embellishments that matched or seemed to *fit* so I decided, since I was still using the same piece of paper, to cut some of the flowers out and put them on like faux photo corners on the corners of the card. I used my 4 embellishments as the cute little pink gems.

Oh, and how could I forget?! This is a Whiff of Joy stamp. In the stamp, Melinda ACTUALLY has a basket full of flowers. Well, I cut the flowers out with my scalpel and just left the basket. Then I stamped a cute little tiny cupcake from an Inkadinkadoo set called "bad or fattening" I silhouette cut both the cupcake and Melinda and put the cupcake in her basket. I colored her with my copics (to quote my just turned 3 year old daughter Chloe, 'duuuuh') and put some icicle stickles on so the icing would be shimmery -- I don't count that as embellishment - it's just part of the coloring! Oh, and to sweeten it all, I put dove chocolates in the picture. That ought to win me a prize right there, yeah?

enjoy!

great card :)

I'll have to join you in some of these challenges and do a better job of linking them in my blog (I have to remember where I find them in the first place - ha ha)
